Room 17
Some rooms remember their guests.
Room 17 at the Royale hotel has a reputation nobody can quite explain. Guests encounter fragments of an experience that does not belong to them: a frightened child, violence, an escape. The pieces carry the force of something remembered without offering the clarity of a story told from beginning to end. Whatever is present has made the room more than somewhere to spend the night.
Yvette Jones begins investigating what seems to be a haunting. But the room refuses to behave in the way that explanation suggests. The fragments point towards an event preserved in the place itself, something that happened there and has remained misunderstood for years. Understanding it requires more than deciding whether a ghost is present or identifying a death that might explain one.
A memory carries a point of view. Fear can be felt without its cause being understood; an escape can be witnessed without revealing what made it necessary. Yvette must work out whose experience she is seeing and how the pieces belong together. Treating the most frightening fragment as the whole truth risks repeating the misunderstanding that has kept the past unresolved.
The room offers access without explanation, drawing her towards something intimate and incomplete. Its guests are receiving impressions that were never their own, while the event behind them remains out of reach. To learn what Room 17 wants, Yvette needs to listen to what the place has actually retained rather than force it into a familiar account of haunting.
Room 17 is a supernatural mystery about memory, interpretation and the persistence of an experience nobody has properly understood. Within the walls of an ordinary hotel room, the past has continued to make itself felt. Yvette's task is to discover what those feelings mean—and why they have never been able to leave.
